Queen of Hearts

For the past two days, I've been bustling back and forth to NYC for the Smart Girls Group Conference, and yesterday, I got to catch up with theLala girls in the evening in St. Marks Place. I wanted to wear something that easily transitioned from day to night, while still maintaining a casual business feel (not to mention, something light considering it was about 85 degrees yesterday!). I started with two simple pieces: my casual black Brandy Melville tank, and these incredible Monteau scalloped-edge shorts that I got at Marshalls for literally like $15.

To add a business casual-feel, I added this great mustard blazer from Forever 21 (a little ironing and it looks super expensive). Blazers are great day to night pieces, especially when they're an interesting  color. Think about it: super professional for day and a fun jacket for night. To contrast the mustard and to avoid my face being washed out, I sported Mac's Retro Matte Lipstick in Dangerous, which is a beautiful blood-orangey red that completely pops off the mustard (these are also brilliant colors if you're a brunette). To add a little graphic, I added my Love Moschino tote I purchased back in Florence in Summer 2010. This bag is perfect to add an eye-catching quality to a pretty solid look, and plus, its big enough for me to drag (in the most loving sense of the word) around my DSLR, iPad and notebook. And finally, let's talk about these shoes?! You can find these babies on Nasty Gal, but I did actually pick them up at DSW! They're perfect for day-to-night transition since they're half day sandal/ half night flat (how apropos). I'm basically in love with them to say the least.

To complete my look, I just jazzed up my usual arm of bracelets with my Alex+Ani silver and gold bangles, and added my Michael Kors Wrap Watch.

Day to night loveeeee.
