This past Sunday I had the privilege of attending a talk hosted by Mr. Zac Posen at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Charles James: Beyond Fashion. (Stay tuned for a U Lala post on the details...) I decided to dress up for the occasion, and picked this swingy-skate skirt dress by Free People as an ode to the voluminous Posen and James pieces discussed at the talk. This dress not only has an absolutely miraculous cut (with or without a belt), but also has this amazing textured ombré. The bottom, darker part is a glossy finish, which fades into the regular lacey fabric. This dress is not only one of its kind, but is also perfect because it can be worn dressed up or dressed down.
I belted it with an old belt I have from Abercrombie & Fitch (it's cute though, promise!..) and its a bit too big so I twisted it around a few times to get it to be tight enough (a trick I like to use for when a belt is too big). I wanted a lighter shoe to balance out the heaviness of the dress, so I wore these adorable vintagey-looking pumps from Seychelles. I added my black envelope clutch, feather headband, and reflective glasses to make the look a little more fun. (Totally inspired by Kenley Collins' style for this one...)
