NEW AMERICANA

Halloweek. The best 7 days out of the entire year. According to me, at least. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. I'm not sure if it was the elementary school parties complete with dry ice cauldrons that got me started, or just the fact that I got to pick out any costume I wanted, either way, it's always, always, always been my favorite holiday. And it probably always will be.

For my last October fashion post, I wanted to do a halloween-inspired outfit but I still wanted to keep it in the parameters of fashion, not costume (which is ironic, because most of what I wear sometimes could be considered a bit "costumey"). I started with these brand new Jeffrey Campbell monsters I just purchased from Nasty Gal, and let me tell you, I am in love. These velvet booties are in the Dwight style, and they are a bit avant-garde (even for me) but I really plan to embrace them and style them for awesome night outs. I paired these with a velvet printed dress from Urban Outfitters that I purchased a while back, and finished it off with a bang [AKA this furry vest from H&M]! At last, I wanted to do something crazy with my lip color, so I swiped on the gorgeous royal blue from Makeup Forever's 12 Flash Palette Color Case (pro tip, this is a perfect palette to invest in for all of your future Halloweens!) And last but never least, my choker is from Topshop, and it's the gnarliest.

So pumped to get all dressed up this week & live on candy corn.

Happy Halloweek!!!

KING

GUYS! This overall dress is literally my life. It's body hugging, really well made, and the corduroy texture just makes everything feel 100% more fall. And how gorgeous is this color--- it's just electric. I purchased this baby from Topshop a few weeks ago, and have been waiting to debut it on my blog til the perfect October day. I paired this over an adorable short sleeve sweater from Brandy Melville, (I love how super 90s it is).

To play with some proportion, I added some height with my Jeffrey Campbell 99 Tie Wedges, and I finished the look off with thigh-high socks. These kinds of socks will be your secret weapon this fall and I definitely recommend investing in a pair. Pair them with the same color shoes and you can create the illusion of a thigh-high boot, or pair them with a contrastive color shoe to make them pop out like I did here- they're sooo versatile. Finally, I decided to switch things up with a high pony (I wear my hair down on my blog wayyy too often) and of course, I finished the look off with Mac's Sin for a nice burgundy lip.

MUDDLED

Ah, October. I promise you that we tried to find a pumpkin patch while shooting this, but then we remembered we're in the middle of Manhattan, so that's a bit hard. (It was also during the week when UWS farmer's markets are closed..womp womp). Regardless, it was a rather hot October afternoon, so I decided to play around with a ton of loose and fun texture. I based the entire look off of this gorgeous blouse from Ralph Lauren, courtesy of Ms. Joanna. Not only is the print SUPER fall, the silky texture is just outrageously perfect for autumn temperatures. I'm especially obsessed with the tie at the center, and this is actually the first blouse with a tie that I've ever owned. Needless to say, I kind of want more.

To compliment the silky top, I of course had to go with a silky bottom. I paired this with a simple black skater skirt from Forever 21, and I love how seamlessly it worked with the top. The two pieces look as if they are one of a kind- how cool. I finished off the look with a vintage leather bag, and my favorite fall heels from DVF (courtesy of Lindz, of course).

SCREAM

There's something about Ryan Murphy's Scream Queens that really makes me appreciate fashion, and I think that adds to the already 3423842 thousand reasons why I adore the show. Not sure if it was the shout-out to Choupette Lagerfeld in the last episode, or Emma Roberts' fantasy Kappa closet, but this storyline just gets it. I especially love the use of kickass pastels in unexpected ways, and that's exactly what I decided to capture on this chilly October day (sidenote, I cannot believe it's already OCTOBER.. time... flies..)

I started with this adorable shift dress from Urban Outfitters I purchased a few months back. Of course, it's the only pastel pink thing in my closet, but that's what makes it 10x more fun to style. To add some major contrast and edge it up (channeling my Chanel #06?), I decided to pair it with the opposite side of the spectrum: poignant black and gold hardware from this kickass BCBG jacket (and of course a little faux fur.) To add another dimension of proportion, I added knee highs and my beloved black matte Doc Martens. I am now ready to hunt a red devil, clearly. (Excuse all the show puns, it's just brilliant, aka, go watch it if you haven't.)
