Jordan Taylor S|S 2013 Collection ♡ Review

Welcome to the first of (hopefully) many fashion line reviews! Today I will be reviewing Jordan Taylor | Elif for Jordan Taylor's Spring-Summer 2013 Collection! Jordan Taylor is a resort-wear line based in New York City that has been around for a little over 30 years, and has primarily been focused on beach wear and swim wear during the past decade. The clothes are not only beautifully cut to suit a variety of body types, but are also extremely effortless in appearance and wear. The S|S 2013 collection is full of color, simplicity, and sheer elegance!

Part 1 | Elif for Jordan Taylor

The first three looks from Elif for Jordan Taylor are perhaps my favorite of the entire collection. Each of these looks consist of bright ombré silhouettes ranging from reds to purples and green to blue. They are all extremely wearable, girly, and fun for the summer transition into fall.
To me, these garments a reminiscent of Greek Mythology. I can literally picture the Goddess Athena walking through the Parthenon in the first red-purple ombré ensemble, Persephone in the green-blue high low dress, and Aphrodite in the short, red-purple tunic. There is a certain charisma that radiates from these particular looks- and I love it!

These next five looks are also from Elif for Jordan Taylor, and they are a nice range of neutral tones. Look 1 (farthest to the left) is a cute beige tunic (very similar to the one I coined as 'Aphrodite' above) with a tie waist and v neck. Look 2 (left to right) is a clean cut, light white maxi dress (also with a tie waist). Look 3 is a black swimsuit paired with a long black mesh pant that is perfect for slightly colder days. Look 4 is a nice light beige high-low tank dress, and finally, the fifth look is a cute tie-skirt over a white bikini!

I really like the flow of these looks and they are all extremely cohesive when lined up together. The garments as a whole give off an extremely cool and sleek vibe. I love the mesh material used in every look here, because it's light enough for summer and thick enough for the crisp autumn days to come, not to mention, durable enough to withstand the outdoors for hours (plus, it's probably pretty easy to clean!) Each of the pieces are extremely modern, chic, and fashion forward. They work collectively to create a line that any girl would want to have in their closet!!

Part 2 | Jordan Taylor

These next four looks are from Jordan Taylor's Spring | Summer collection. Look 1 (farthest to the left) is a long blue maxi dress, with a deep v-neck and bell sleeve. Look 2 (left to right) is an adorable orange short lounge dress. Look 3 is a longer white tunic (similar to Look 1 from EJT and the 'Aphrodite' tunic) with a tie, and finally, the fourth look is a cute, long, orange maxi with a tube top bodice.

Two words for this group of garments: effortless and ease. I like that each are extremely versatile for any body type and will look good on everyone and anyone! I also really like that the movement of the fabric is captured in each of these still photos.

Finally, these last four Jordan Taylor looks are a strong ending to a fun collection for Spring/ Summer 2013. Look 1 is a long, grey, tunic with a longer sleeve, perhaps for a more mature client, while the second look is more of a fun, cap-sleeve white hoodie for perhaps a younger client. Looks 3 and 4 are extremely close in overall appearance, however, the fourth look differs with a tie at the waist, while the third look is a more draped version of the latter.

These four are perhaps my second favorite group out of both collections, for these pieces capture a certain nuance of hardness and durability. A similar type of mesh is used in this collection as is in Elif for Jordan Taylor, which again, embraces modernity and gives the clothes a distinct, cool vibe.

I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Jordan Taylor's showroom in the garment district and I picked up two pieces from their line!

First Piece: White Cap Sleeve Hoodie

The first piece I picked up is this adorable white-cap sleeved hoodie that is perfect for transition into fall! The pattern mimics lace, and although this is made as a beach-cover up, it can honestly be worn and transformed into anything-- perhaps even a dress or a shirt. I love the lightness of the fabric and the delicacy of the pattern!

Second Piece: Short High Low Tank Dress

The next piece I got is a short high-low black mesh tank dress that I absolutely loveeeee! If you know me, you know that this is something that could potentially become a staple in my wardrobe because it has the ability to totally transform into anything! I love the texture of the mesh and I am so excited to style this piece for fall.

(Stay tuned for a weekly wear or two feat. these pieces from Jordan Taylor's Spring | Summer 2013 Collection!)

August Favorites ♡ Twenty Thirteen

Makeup

01. TheBalm's Betty-Lou Manizer Bronzer/Shimmer/ Shadow Powder- I'm absolutely IN LOVE with this stuff! It's a gorgeous powder that gives a nice bronze contour. It's not too powdery and swatches beautifully, not to mention, picks up well on a brush. I would recommend using a Mac 188 angled contour brush (or something similar) when applying this. It's absolutely gorgeous and definitely up there with my Benefit Hoola and NARS Laguna!

02. Shadows from Mac's Fabulously Festive Face Kit (Holiday 2011)- This limited addition quad has three matte shadows and one lustre. I've been loving Omega on my lids and Soft Brown in my crease! Golden Flurry is a gorgeous shimmery gold highlight and Carbon is great for setting any gel/liquid black liner. These shades are super versatile, and I believe all are currently available in pot/pan form except Golden Flurry (Mac's Shroom would be a good dupe!)

03. YSL's Rouge Volupté in 109- I got this lipstick at a CCO (a makeup discount store, kind of like an outlet) up in Lake George for $14, (original: $45) and I am so so happy I picked it up! Sometimes products sold at CCOs are damaged or defective, but I'm pretty content with this YSL lipstick. It's a gorgeous shimmery plum that is perfect for summer transition into fall! I've already started wearing it a ton and it's long lasting, extremely creamy, and nicely pigmented. Definitely take advantage of an CCO's you may came across, because you may be able to find some surprisingly awesome products like this one!

04. TheBalm's Powder to the People Brush- I got this brush off of Hautelook over the summer, and it is my first powder brush from theBalm- and I'm pleased! It's super soft and versatile, you can use this for blush, setting powder, or even bronzer. It feels extremely similar to Mac's 129 Blush brush and they are probably a good dupe for one another!

Nails | Body

05. Victoria's Secret Fresh and Clean Body Scrub- I've been looking for a new exfoliator and came across this one in VS-(I'm switching off from Lush products for a while..!) and I really like the smell and consistency of this. Really refreshing and nice!

06. The Body Shop's Vanilla Body Mist- love this stufffff! I got this last semester and it's lasted me a while. It has a super strong scent, but it's super long lasting.

07. Butter London's Fiver- a beautiful icey-blue mint polish that I've worn on my nails almost every week this month. It's a great end-of summer color.

08. Eye Tees- As some of you may know, I just recently moved into school last weekend and I randomly picked these out when I was picking up extra items I knew I needed for move-in day. They're basically just normal q-tips with one pointy side and one round side. I find these awesome for perfecting winged liner and I'd recommend them to any makeup connoisseur!

Fashion

09. Steve Madden Thundr-C Booties- These are officially my new favorite boots I own! I got these at the beginning of the month with Miss Lilly (who actually got the same pair!) at a Steve Madden outlet out on Long Island. These are a gorgeous light brown leather with pretty lace cutouts on each side that have been perfect on the crisper days of August and will be great for transitioning into September and fall!

Instas

01. My new room for the next two semesters :) 02. Sunflowers 03. Cloudscape 04. My last beach day with Ms. Lilly!

Hope everyone had a lovely August :)

Yay for almost fall!

Dorm Room Tour ♡ Twenty Thirteen

For my dorm this year, I was über inspired by a poster I stumbled upon while browsing Society6 I knew I wanted to make my room clean, sophisticated, and artistic--- with a touch of elegance. (Not to mention, I do tours at my school so I wanted it to be really pretty and engaging for when prospective students visit the residence hall!) I browsed through millions of prints, and found one that truly set the stage for how I designed my entire dorm room.... a sophisticated, artistic interpretation of a "killer queen"...

Inspiration: Marie Antoinette

Left: Taken from Society6 | Right: Personal Photography

I was immediately drawn to the balance and mix between the old, traditional painting of Marie Antoinette, and the modern graphic words printed on her bosom: "LOSE MY MIND"
Not only is this an entertaining pun regarding her death (execution style..) but also, I liked the conceptual meaning behind it regarding the dame's history. Plus, it looks so cool!
[Find this poster here if you'd like to purchase a copy for your own interior design!]

Disclaimer: Everything I purchased for this dorm room will also be used in my bedroom at home, I'm not just buying this stuff for school! All other products and accessories seen in my photos are taken from my bedroom at home. This is a post for me to share with you how I was inspired to decorate my dorm room this year and I hopefully can pass a little inspiration off to you.

For my bed area, I knew I wanted something comfortable and easy to make. Last semester I made the mistake of having too many small pillows on my bed, which resulted in taking too much time to place every pillow when I had to make my bed look neat every morning. I decided to stick with two standard pillows instead this year, and to go along with my "Marie Antoinette" kind of theme, I found these to be perfect! Written in thick, black text, these pillowcases together read "Bon Soir." Find this set here! They're from Urban Outfitters.
As for my duvet, I originally wanted white bedding, but I decided against; after all, the walls are already white. I opted for this pink ruffled "Waterfall" duvet, also from Urban, and I have to say, it's extremely comfortable and more practical than it looks. NOTE: It just needs to be smoothed down so all the ruffles go in the same direction when you make your bed!

And as for lighting, I really am not a fan of floor lamps in general, but my roommate Lilly and I knew that we needed one in our bedroom. I stumbled upon this one on Hautelook (a site that does FLASH sales) and I fell in love with the chandelier- esque feel it gives off. I could not pass up it up! This gorgeous floor lamp is from angelo: HOME.  I got a great deal with this lamp since it was on sale on Hautelook, and it's absolutely a perfect match to the hot pink accents in our room. I will be moving this to my own bedroom at home when I am not at school, it's way to gorgeous to be kept in storage over the summer!!

As for wall decor, I knew I wanted something personal and unique to me. I discovered Printstagram back in July, and I fell in love with the mini-prints because of their awesome resemblance to Polaroid prints. Similar to Stickygram, you sign in through your Instagram account and are able to choose what photos you would like printed. For the mini-prints, you get 48 different photos for only 12 dollars! I ordered the set of 48 and decided to put them on my wall in the shape of a triangle. These are absolutely awesome and I highly recommend checking Printstagram out if you're searching for some wall-decor inspiration!

As for the desk space, I use this desk as both a desk for doing work and as a vanity to keep my brushes, lipsticks, mirror, and palettes. Everything is pushed to the far end so I do have enough room for my laptop and books in case I needed that area. I mainly like to do work at the dining room table we have in our living area or other places such as the library, so this is why I keep a lot of my makeup out in my room.
Everything on this desk is from my room at home! And because I know I'll get asked, my mirror from Conair!

And finally, my closetttt! I'm in love with what we did with our closet this year, adding hot pink curtains on each side. This is my side of our closet:

Left: 10 Drawer Rolling shelf from Michael's. I like to keep my makeup, body products, medicine, and miscellaneous stuff in here so I have more room in my desk drawers. On top I just have a few plates with rings and jewelry as well as a dried rose in a mason jar! | Right: I have only the pieces of clothing that need to be hung, i.e dresses, skirts, jackets, and collared shirts! My empty train case is at the bottom.

I like to keep my shoes (pumps and wedges) on display on the top shelves, while I keep my boots in the lower shelves of my closet! The farthest shelf parallel to the top of my 10 drawer cart holds all of my hot hair tools, hairbrush/combs, and headbands & accessories in those little white square containers! And my Marie Antoinette poster is hung right outside my closet! :)

I wanted my room at school to be a reflection of me and I wanted it to have items, decor, and colors that will inspire me each day for the next two semesters!

Happy decorating!

South Street Seaport ♡ NYC

Yesterday, Miss Lilly and I went downtown to take a walk around Southstreet Seaport. If you are in the NYC area and have never been, I highly recommend it for an afternoon of shopping and lunch!

(The water is right behind that bridge in the far center!)

Naturally, before we headed over, we stopped for Chipotle.

Right now, Southstreet is hosting a movie every night on the faux- lawn they created at the very end of Fulton St.

IT'S SUGAR !! (Basically the same concept as Dylan's, but slightly targeted towards an adult audience with some things they sell... i.e chocolate body paint and candy bikinis...)

TED | GUMMY CANDIES | MARSHMALLOW LOLLIPOPS...

I adore the "BYOB"- "Bring your own Bears" Gummy Bears by the way..... <3

Lilly, on the other hand, enjoyed "Camel Balls"
(ew..?)

After ITS SUGAR, we headed down to the port....

Rosie the Riveter at your service!

If you know me personally and well, you know I'm a sucker for leather bracelets..

Macarons by Woops = <3 <3 <3

[I completely fell in love with this slightly creepy portrayal of MJ mixed with Marilyn, but whateves, I still may go back and get it ;)]

And the view from the pier...
